Zippy, as his name infers, is a ball of happy puppy energy!!!  He is approximately one year old and is a smaller terrier mix.  He will not get any larger. He will put on a few pounds. Based on the wave in his hair, we think there MIGHT be some Poodle in his lineage, but cannot be sure.  He definitely has some sort of small terrier(Yorkie, Silky, Norwich, etc) in his blood lines. He looks like a slightly larger version of "Toto" from the Wizard of Oz with a small white patch on his chest.
Zippy was picked up as stray and taken to one of our partner shelters in Harrisonburg, Va. No one ever came to claim this happy little guy, who quickly became a staff favorite. He definitely likes people, and enjoys snuggling in a lap.  He is an active boy and wears himself out with his terrier energy, intelligence and curiosity.   He also appears to like other dogs, and will see any new dog as his playmate or new best friend.  He is excited to meet new, friendly dogs, and is learning that his enthusiasm may be too much for some dogs.  He is all loose and wiggly when meeting new people and dogs, so he may be too much for very young children or dogs that prefer not to have their personal space invaded by an active pup.   With training, maturity and a stable home, Zippy can learn the appropriate way to meet new friends....he is just a baby, after all.

He will not be placed in a home with children under the age of 10 years.  He has not been tested with cats, but given his terrier personality, he will most likely do best in a home with no cats. We would prefer that he go to a home with a fenced yard, but will not require one, as long as he will be afforded several walks a day.
Finally, Zippy's forever home must have one pet parent who is home more often than not, or who works from home or part time.  He would be fine with an active retired person or couple, as well.  He also would do best in a home where there is another friendly, active dog who will help him burn off some of his puppy/terrier energy.  He would benefit from a basic obedience class, and his new family should plan on enrolling him in one, once he has settled in with a routine.

If you would like to add this adorable little guy to your family, and have the time to invest in his training, please fill out an application to begin the approval process.
