Meet the our newest foster dog  Boomer the lab.  Boomer is a true gentleman..Boomer is around 5 years young, and 70lbs. He is almost at his perfect weight which would be 75-80lbs. Boomer is a very loving boy, who loves to be loved. He always returns that love from with lots of kisses, and by rolling over for a belly rub. He craves attention and approval from his "person", to earn their love.

Like many of the dogs that come into our care, the first part of his life wasn't always easy.  He was turned into a shelter in Georgia from his owner who mistreated him. When he came into the shelter, he was severely underweight, had both a skin and eye infection, fleas, and a urinary track infection. But he is now on the mend as all of these medical issues have been treated and he is 100% better. He was fully  fully vetted and is heart worm negative.  Like most labs, Boomer ADORES people, and couldn't be a sweeter, more affectionate boy. Boomer is also very well behaved, responds to commands well, is house trained, and walks perfectly on leash walks. Just like us humans, there are a few things to know about Boomer before considering making him "part of your pack". These facts are vital in his placement, and ensure that he is set up for success in a new home. These behaviors are not uncommon, and are easily corrected.  Because we plan to place him as an only dog in a forever home, they wouldn't apply to his placement.

But it's important to know that he does have a few quirks. Boomer's nature is quintessence of a Labrador retriever.  Dogs behaviors are also made up from nurture. A dog gets their nature from its family and the first 8 or 10 weeks with their litter.  A dog gets nurture after they have left the litter and they are in their new home. In Boomers case, he had been neglected and deprived of many comforts most loved companions would normally receive.  He craves everything he's been deprived of. This in turn, created Boomers guarding issues towards other dogs.

We feel Boomer would be best as an only dog, AKA king of his castle. Boomer has been in a foster home with another dogs and has been able to peacefully coexist. But this is because his foster manages and limits high valued items  Boomer has made great improvement already with his guarding issues since being in foster care. For this reason, Boomer will be placed in a home without other dogs. Finally, Boomer is not a dog that can be crated. NO Exceptions. Crating him causes him to have horrible anxiety, which we believe was caused from being left in a crate for very long periods of time. Boomers "issues" listed above are very easy to manage and correct with the proper training, and are minor compared to the other positive things he has to offer.  And since he will be placed as an only dog, his guarding issues aren't going to be an issue in a new home. Labs are wonderful dogs with great temperaments. He would be a great couch companion and walking buddy. He will lay on the couch for snuggling, or take long walks with his person or new family.
