Jason is a medium-sized, brindle-colored cattle dog mix. About 5 years old, Jason is atypical for his breed as he is a very mellow guy.

Jason has had it rough though. Originally adopted out as a puppy, he came back to the rescue a few years later under-socialized and starving for love. He was filled with anxiety and could not get comfortable with his life and surroundings. Jason spent a long time at the rescue just being a dog, and now he is much more serene and happy, and is finally ready to adopt a forever human. Although cattle dogs are generally known to be active dogs, our little Jason enjoys a comfy bed and is quick to retreat the sofa for a nap when he feels over-taxed. But he definitely has the herding dog intellect, and is quick to learn new skills, such as sitting for treats or proper leash-walking technique. Like most of the herders, Jason is an alert little watchdog, who will let you know if someone is trying to sneak into the back yard while he is on duty. In the car, he is happy to ride along in a crate or in the back seat, but will be on his best behavior if you drop the silly "pack leader" act, and let him sit next to you on the passenger side.

Since we are not too good at Photoshop, you may notice that Jason is a bit of a chunky monkey. Although he is on his way to a more svelte physique, he wants his future best friend to understand that his body is built for comfort, and he likes being a bit "portly"

Since he is still a bit anxious about effusive greetings from strangers, he is looking for a home with adults only or older children who are sensitive to his needs, rather than young kids with lots of energetic friends running about. Like any dog, he will eagerly rally for a daily walk or two. He is up-to-date on all vaccinations and, like a senior applying to college, he is eagerly awaiting the next phase of life, when he can approve a long-term cuddle partner of his own. Are you the one for Jason? If you think so, please email Hal@HomeAtLastSanctuary.org
